I miss my old Blog

I visited my old blog and it got me chuckling. I wrote some funny things and I loved the comments that I got. And although this post isn't as interesting as some of the stuff I've posted in the past, here are a few of the things we've been up to lately.

Some hard core sledding. This is some scary stuff...at least for mommy. Taken at Soldier Hollow. I meant to take more pictures but it was freezing and I was worried that I was going to drop the camera as we flew down the hills. These ropes tow you up individually and then you may go down as a group. Once we all held on to each others tubes. Not a good idea. We picked up too much speed. It freaked me out and I refused to look.

Some more Lego creations.

Our t.v. channels haven't been working since the Holidays. The kids haven't asked for t.v. We've watched more movies and the kids have been into everything. EVERYTHING. T.V. is not such a bad thing sometimes.

Working on our own version of "I Spy" books. Still working out the kinks.

Our pet birds as part of our attempt at I spy

They're names are Yoda, C3PO, and R2D2 btw. Can you tell which is which?

Alot of reading. The top three were Toki's reads for the month or I should say a week. His favorite was BFG. But he really enjoyed Matilda and he refused to read Witches for a few days after starting it. Too scary but he managed to finish it. Thanks Bobby for giving the boys such good books.

Busy Season for Chris....Single parenthood for me

Trying to get to the secret stash of candy. I finally just threw it away since they were plowing through it.

Our new cabinets. Actually they're the old ones refaced. Chris took beadboard and used his new table saw (actually used off of ksl.com) to cut them to the right size. We glued, caulked, and painted, painted, painted. Now we need some antique looking knobs to accessorize actually more to decrease those finger prints.

love em. And him. He's so handy and talented.

A before-scripture-reading activity that should have been an after reading activity

The boys make a circle of objects and hop over the items as long as they can

It's quite the work out.

And actually quite fun for them. I of course just sit, watch and wish I had the desire to burn off some calories and join them.

I've also started Vy's scrapbook/journal. Did one for Toki a long time ago and now am compiling my thoughts, feelings, and journal entries about the little monkey. I had a strong start and was surprised that I remembered so much. It's one of those things I have to be in the mood for or it just doesn't' happen.

Hope you have a good day!

Some books that remind me of You.

A few of our favorite picture books:

This one reminds me of Toki when I read it.

This one has Vy written all over it. (LOVE this book)

And this one is all Lolo.

Things I love

How your hair comes to a point like this. And only yours and Daddy's does this. (Vy)

How you're so fixated on having the longest road that you could have won many turns ago and then you win anyway. (Vy)

How you HAVE to get at least one I spy book when we go to the library. (Lolo)

and then you beg us to do them with you and you are so utterly happy about it all

Our Eskimo kisses only you and I do (Lolo)

Teasing you about your burnt pork that kept you up all last night because you got overzealous about smoking it and got a late start and you never complained about being tired today. (Chris)

When your Primary teacher thinks about you and goes an extra mile to give you a card and gift for your baptism. (Toki)

That you love to play games with us and you're learning to be a good sport (all boys)

Finding you reading

Finding a book that makes me cry but mostly laugh and

then reading together. You with your book and me with my book.

A thought

A couple months ago we had a super Saturday. First time I've ever heard of it. It was this activity where ladies get together and craft all day. I believe the church has put an end to Super Saturdays (for now at least).

Any how, I was getting ready to embellish my craft with a sticker that read "our family is forever" when I noticed my friend pick up her sticker that read "just family." Oh cool, I thought, where can I get one of those? To which she replied, "I special ordered this" and with a lowered voice "we're not married in the temple." Call me insensitive, but I couldn't help but laugh.

As if

How can families not be forever, married in the temple or not. We married, we had children, we experienced life together. We're bound to a certain degree , temple marriage or not. And unless I missed the part that our memories of our family will be wiped away completely at death, I believe you can't forget family whether you want to or not.

And if my kid in heaven didn't remember I was his mama, I'm gonna slap him right side the head.

stupid Mormon cliches

A Big Day

We've been super busy these past couple of weeks with lots of family visiting and celebrating. One of the major events besides Christmas, our Anniversary (which we didn't celebrate), New year's, Spencer's wedding, and Toki's birthday, was his baptism.

I was quite busy trying not to completely mutilate the opening and closing hymns, as the pianist, and then trying to keep Vy and Lolo quiet and still (which wasn't working) that I wasn't able to calmly and peacefully enjoy the ordinance.

However, I'm happy for us. We've made it this far and it is an accomplishment for me. It's not easy to stay active in any church, and have seen lots of converts "fall away."

I hope for my children that they will notice the blessings in their lives because of their faithfulness in keeping the commandments and trying to live Christ's teachings. It's so easy for us to be ungrateful and not see how truly blessed we are until something happens to shake us out of our so called "misery." We've been given so much and in many ways are spoiled.

Vy and Lolo were the only kids watching the baptism. They got front row seats to watch their big brother get dunked. They then thought they could also crawl into the center of the circle as Chris, his dad and grandpa, Uncle Quin, and brothers Loyd and Bobby, gathered around Toki to lay their hands on his head and confer the gift of the Holy Ghost to him.

Something that I want to remember is when our Bishop got up to address us and especially Toki and gave him some specific instructions. "I interviewed this young man before baptism and his parents have taught him well. You have good parents." To which he replied, "I know." He kept replying "o.k." as the Bishop gave him specific instructions to listen to his parents and to write down in his journal about his baptism experience.

So happy my parents came up for this event. My kids loved having their grammy and papa around. And it was just nice to have their presence with us for a handful of days. Wish it would happen more often.

hahaha. Toki looks mortified and I look fat.
